July 2008

July was relatively uneventful when compared to June. The month was largely dedicated to preparing for our move to Denver. There were so many details to square away before we could even pack! The most fun detail was determining whether we were having a boy or a girl in September! So on July 1, we went in for our 28 week 3D ultrasound, just as we had done with Ryan Michael. In a matter of minutes, the tech was able to confirm we were definitely having a little girl! Mike was in tears instantly! His first words were, "I get to walk someone down the aisle!" It is funny what our first thoughts are when we hear life changing news. :)

The following week we headed to Tucson to celebrate Aunt Tasha's birthday. We had a wonderful time; surprising her with a large cookie and some of her favorite ice cream! The boys were more than happy to sing Happy Birthday: they know that there are always treats after such a song! And, well, Rocky got a little excited and bit into a candle thinking it was part of the birthday cookie. It did make for a cute picture and some great laughter!

After dessert, Uncle Ryan read to the boys from an American Hero book and then we sent them to bed. The rest of the evening was spent sipping tea, laughing together, and telling fun stories uninterrupted by little boys. It was delightful!

The following morning, Mike and I left for Denver. It was our first weekend without Ryan Michael since he was born. Ryan Michael was so brave and blessed our trip by waving good bye to us. We were so proud of him! Uncle Ryan had his National Guard Service that weekend; so basically, Aunt Tasha had to watch both boys by herself for her birthday weekend. She was so giving and so wonderful to help us as she did. In fact, when we returned, Ryan Michael cried desperately to stay with Aunt Tasha! She must have rocked!! (Although, I have to note, that Rocky did want to come home with us, which made Mike and I feel a whole lot better! ;)

While in Denver, we caught up with our friend Stasia and her family who graciously showed us around their city. We were able to secure a place to live and were encouraged by being introduced to what seems like a great church community. It was a whirlwind of a visit, but it was promising to have accomplished our goal. Stasia was very sweet to spend her free-time navigating us around. Thanks Stasia!

Ryan Michael has been so patient with all of our inattention... he has been content with his Cars movie, his trains and matchbox cars, and a simple sprinkler in the back yard! (We have been able to maintain our play dates with Josie as well. As you can see in the pixes, she has gotten into the sprinkler action a few times too :) He has even helped with packing up a few boxes, although packing some of his toys has proven to be difficult. His mood improved, surprisingly, when we donated or "permanently shared" some of his older toys. He liked that idea after some long talks. Mike and I were so encouraged and so proud of him. That was a hard thing for him to do.. and he actually did it cheerfully! Mike and I have so much to learn…

When we returned home from donating his toys, Ryan Michael found his tools and his tool belt in a box. He carefully pulled them out, put them together, and comforted his babies by rocking them gently. He didn’t like finding them so neglected in a cold box in the basement! It was so cute, I had to record it.. and I did manage to catch a few minutes before he was too distracted by my camera.

Below is the clip! He thought I was taking a picture, so he kept saying, "Cheese!"

Our month ended in much the same way it had begun; with birthday parties! We celebrated Mike's 39th and my Mom's 53rd. Ryan, Tasha, and Rocky drove up from Tucson for the event (as well as some National Guard business). Rocky had arrived from Tucson asleep, while Ryan Michael refused to miss a minute of a party. He was rewarded with a crazy chase by his uncle! Two Ryan T-Rexes ran through the kitchen for the birthday occasion. They were so cute that even Gma-Rissa got involved in the chaos by the end! We had a blast that night!

Happy Birthday G-Fitty and Dada!

Ryan Michael tries to help Gma-Rissa blow out ALL of her candles!
(I tried to upload the video of the Two Ryan T-Rexes.. but had trouble. I will try again later, hopefully with more success. Sorry all!) Have a great month! --Love, Kelley
